Welcome to the Austin Chapter of Organizing for America's website!(If this is your first visit to our site please see our navigation page to help you find your way around.) *Weekly Action Item: Please write a letter to the Statesman editor to show
community support for comprehensive immigration reform. Also, here is a PDF with information on the issues to help you with your points. Thank you! On March 21, 2010, the House of
Representatives passed the Senate version of health care reform and on
March 25, 2010, the Reconciliation Bill passed both the House and the
Senate. Thank you to everyone at Austin OFA for all your hard work on
the phones, with your Congresspersons and with your friends and
families. See our special link detailing eighteen important provisions that will take effect upon the President's signature on the bill. Also check out our updated "Get Informed" page on health care reform. Here are some videos from the President and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee thanking everyone for their hard work on health care reform.
And just for fun here are some editorial cartoons that came out after the bill was passed. Did you know that when health care reform was passed, the bill also included reforms to student aid (the Student Aid and
Fiscal Responsibility Act)? This legislation improves student access to financial aid for higher education while also reducing the costs to the Federal government. See our new Education page to get informed about this legislation and how it is making college more affordable. To see Austin OFA in action, see the great slide show put together by our own Cindy Metcalf! You'll see how we work, play and eat while bringing about progressive change to our nation. The site is very much a work in progress, so if you have any problems
using it or have suggestions for how to improve it, please feel free to contact
us and share your opinion. |
